Ukraine's reconstruction conference continues in Rome: "Commitments worth over €10 billion"

The international conference dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine continues in Rome . The goal is to chart a concrete path for the rebirth of the country, severely affected by the conflict. Among the participants was Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who received praise from many sides for the Italian government's commitment to supporting Kyiv both diplomatically and economically.

Reconstruction of Ukraine: The Rome Conference Continues

The event , co-organized by the Italian and Ukrainian governments, represents the most important international gathering dedicated to the country's reconstruction. Approximately 5,000 participants , including 100 government delegations, 40 international organizations, over 2,000 companies, and numerous civil society representatives, attended. The work is structured around four main themes—business, human, local, and institutional—with a special focus on culture and heritage protection.

"Such broad, high-level participation in this conference sends an important message to the world: each of us is here to do our part for a common goal: to look beyond the unbearable injustice that has been inflicted on the Ukrainian people for more than three years and to be able to imagine a rebuilt, free, and prosperous Ukraine. We intend to achieve this goal not only by helping Ukraine defend itself, pursuing every effort for peace, but also by being able to imagine the aftermath, by being able to rebuild what has been destroyed: roads, bridges, schools, churches, hospitals," said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her opening remarks.

Meanwhile, Russia's offensive on the city of Kiev and other Ukrainian regions has intensified. Zelensky called the attacks "a clear escalation of Russian terrorism" and called on international partners to accelerate the imposition of sanctions , increase military support, and finance the production of interceptor drones and air defense systems.

Zelensky: "Russia is not seeking peace"

In his address to the plenary session of the Conference on the Recovery of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of having no intention of pursuing a path to peace , emphasizing that President Putin continues to reject any such proposal. He also highlighted that, just on the eve of the Rome meeting, Moscow launched a new heavy attack on Kiev, using drones to strike the capital and other areas of the country, in an escalation he described as systematic terrorism.

He emphasized that the frequency of attacks has increased and that Ukraine is facing hundreds of drones every night, causing extensive and growing damage. To respond to this threat, the Ukrainian president reiterated the urgent need to strengthen defense systems and increase the production of military technology, such as interceptor drones and missiles. He then appealed to international partners to increase funding and accelerate investments in security.

According to the president, it is essential to develop a clear recovery and resilience plan, comparable to the spirit of the Marshall Plan that helped rebuild Europe after the war.

He also reiterated that Ukraine's reconstruction represents an opportunity not only for his country, but also for European and international economies: investments in Ukraine's rebirth, he explained, could generate shared benefits by modernizing entire industrial and technological sectors.

On the sidelines of the Rome Conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the work of Giorgia Meloni , calling her a strong prime minister.

Ukraine's reconstruction conference continues in Rome: "Commitments worth over €10 billion"

During her speech at the plenary session of the Conference on Ukraine's Recovery in Rome, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni underscored Italy's commitment to supporting Kyiv in the country's reconstruction, reiterating her desire to help build a solid future for a proud and resilient nation. Despite the devastation of war—from attacks on strategic infrastructure to displacement, from victims to children separated from their families—Ukraine, Meloni emphasized, continues to demonstrate economic vitality and extraordinary resilience.

"Investing in Ukraine is an investment in ourselves because it concerns each and every one of us. That's why we should be proud of the result we're achieving together today—nations, international organizations, financial institutions, local authorities, the business sector, and civil society. Together, we've made commitments worth over €10 billion at today's conference ," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Meloni then reiterated that the goal of the international community, and Italy in particular, must be to accompany Ukraine into a new chapter in its history, driven by a sense of justice and responsibility.

According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the end of the first day of the Conference on Ukraine's Recovery, the total value of aid amounts to approximately 10 billion euros, which would rise to 15 billion euros if contracts signed by companies were included.

In a statement released this afternoon, the EU clarified that the new package of agreements signed with international financial institutions provides €2.3 billion, including €1.8 billion in guarantees and €580 million in grants, with the aim of mobilizing investments of up to €10 billion. Von der Leyen emphasized that the European Union remains the main partner and investor for Ukraine's future.
